I was standing in line at the bakery when the idea for this week’s article first took hold. For some reason, my best thinking occurs when I am in the presence of food. Earlier in the day, a colleague was trying to give me directions to her house. After a few attempts to tell me where she lived, she saw the glazed look in my eyes and said, “Give me a pencil, I’ll draw the route.” Bingo, I knew exactly where to go. You see, I am a visual learner. Yes, I can take in and learn information aurally (through my ears), but I retain and understand information much better when it is accompanied by a drawing, picture or model. This is one of my preferred learning styles.
